What Is Fashion?
Fashion is what you wear. This can be at a specific time and place for a specific occasion. It is a form of expression. A form of art when designers can design and people can wear what they like.
If enough people wear something it is known as being fashionable or in fashion. This can apply to both Men´s and Ladies Fashion.
However it is also a form of conformity. People in general wear the same as that in fashion. Consequently many people don´t tend to like to be seen or called unfashionable.
How Did Fashion Begin? Clothing.

The fashion for dresses swimwear accessories for women´s clothing has been in existence in some form for thousands of years. It´s just that they never knew it. Early Western travellers to the east noted how the style of clothing did not change.
Based on the fact that fashion is what one or a group wears it is difficult to say when fashion started. The word fashion being a relatively modern term.
It is said that in 1609 a Spanish traveller to Japan was told by a senior government official that Japanese clothing style had not changed for a thousand years. This is not entirely correct but gives an insight on thinking.
However if we look back hundreds of years in history it was probably when men and women started to move away from sackcloth to more colourful material that had some shape.
In the 1600 and 1700´s in Georgian times in the UK and in France in the reign of Louis you will see pictures of elegant balls with ladies dressed in flowing ballroom dresses.

Men also dressed in extravagant garments of the day.
Unless one is an actor or actress who has played a modern day part for that era one can only imagine how hot and uncomfortable such attire was.
Many of the fabrics were originally brought into Europe from the east.
Later fabrics and dresses were manufactured in other countries.
Recent Times
In more recent times for something like summer dresses swimwear accessories to become fashionable people first have to know about it.
Previously, for example, it was from newspaper advertising. However with the start of television in the 1960´s it brought advertising to the screens and it really started to take off.
Styles changed and moving forward by the 1960’s also came the arrival of the mini skirt and hot pants.
What an exciting time that was!
Wartime rationing had ended in the early 1950’s. New styles of music, most famously The Beatles together with new dress styles welcomed a new era of freedom despite the ever threat of war still lingering. The infamous ´Cold War´ with Russia.
Advertising
Advertising companies grew. Clothing manufacturers and retailers either advertised directly or via advertising agencies. The internet and international travel and international postage has changed everything.
Great fashion designers appeared and developed great dress and clothing designs. Mainly for the rich and famous.
So it grew and fashion, ladies fashion, still grows today with the word Fashion being an accepted word that everyone recognizes.
Bright exciting new styles and fabric came into the west from India, Indonesia and later China. All enhancing Ladies Fashion styles.
Even today some of the best dresses and fabric comes from the far east.
There is always much competition. In the pursuit business, not to mention profit, designers and fashion houses, especially ladies fashion, try to be ahead of the curve. To create the next great fashion trend. Create a style that everyone wants.
New Fashion Designers
For those wanting to be fashion designers there are university courses and fashion design schools and academies.
Some carry more weight than others in the sense that some qualifications are more highly prized than others.
For some wishing to go into the fashion industry as a fashion designer one needs a degree of flair and natural ability.
If you have this a good way of getting into the industry is to approach the fashion houses. Actually ask them direct for their advice on how you could get into ladies fashion designing and what they would require of a candidate.
Ask a few ladies fashion houses and see what they say you would need as basic qualifications. Ask about being taken on for training and see what they say.
If you have good natural ability then they may want to employ you for your talent which may be more important to them than any paper qualifications or courses taken.
Remember also that you could always start you own business using your own designs.
If you are good enough you will be able to get people to back you and support you financially whilst you establish yourself.
If you are someone starting off try sketching out designs of what interests you. Ladies Fashion clothing, men´s clothing, hats, shoes. In fact anything that you feel comfortable with. Don´t let anyone deter you if you feel that this is something that you could make a career of.
